    Zachary Young

    Zac is the face of ASPR and, along with his wife Lauren, are the founders of ASPR. Zac comes with a wealth of qualifications including Masters in both Sports Physiotherapy and Strength and Conditioning.

    Zac loves to work with patients of all ages, sporting backgrounds and fitness levels. His knowledge of both physiotherapy and strength and conditioning, best place him to guide athletes to their goals.

    Zac’s passion for sports injury rehabilitation has seen him work for a number of sporting organisations including Tasmanian Devils Football Club, AFL Tasmania, Tasmanian Institute of Sport, Launceston Tornado’s, Tasmanian state league netball and football, as well as regional football, soccer, basketball and hockey athletes. He is currently the team physiotherapist for the Launceston Football Club, provider of the Netball Australia Knee Program, and ASCA level 1 coach.

    Outside of work, Zac enjoys spending time with his family and friends, border collies and horses.

    Lauren Young

    Lauren and Zac are the founders of ASPR. Lauren is an experienced physiotherapist with more than 13 years in the field, graduating with first class honours in 2012.

    Lauren’s focus areas include persistent pain, low back and neck pain, and joint replacement surgery reconditioning.

    Lauren has an added graduate certificate in pain science, and was fortunate to be selected as a recipient of the ‘Pain Revolution’ scholarship awarded to health care providers to improve the delivery of evidence based care for individuals with persistent pain. Lauren is also an ASCA level one strength and conditioning coach.

    Takato (Tak) Sakurai

    Tak, originally from Tokyo, completed a Doctor of Physiotherapy degree from Bond University in Queensland. After graduation, he began working at a private practice in Brisbane where he experienced treating a wide range of conditions including musculoskeletal, sports, and post-surgical conditions. Tak has completed professional development courses to further upskill his approach to rehabilitation and to provide patient-centred care with the latest research and treatment practices.

    He has always been interested in sports physiotherapy and grew up playing multiple sports including skiing, martial arts, baseball, and basketball. He finds it satisfying to help patients build confidence by achieving complex tasks, such as jumping/landing, plyometrics and change of direction. Tak has studied in the US and has an American Strength and Conditioning qualification. Currently, Tak is completing the Australian equivalent, ASCA Level 1 Strength and Conditioning coach accreditation, and planning to continue further education in sports physiotherapy as he has a strong interest in sports rehabilitation.

    Stuart MacDonald

    After completing his Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia 2013, Stuart began his career at Launceston General Hospital. In 2015 he moved to the UK, where he gained experience treating a diverse range of patients in musculoskeletal outpatient clinics in London. His three year tenure abroad reinforced his philosophy and helped him develop a patient focussed and goal orientated approach to treatment and rehabilitation. Since moving back to Australia Stuart has worked as a Senior Physiotherapist at the LGH, and he is completed a certificate in Pain Science through UNISA. He has also recently completed his GLA:D training and is a GLA:D accredited therapist.

    In his new role at ASPR Stuart is looking forward to providing high quality care to his clients, and empowering them to overcome injuries through evidence-based treatment and management techniques. Stuart has always had a keen interest in sport and has enjoyed finding ways to combine that passion with his professional life. In 2019 he was able to realize this when he was selected for a volunteer position as an on-site physiotherapist for the Invictus Games in Sydney. Currently he is the team physiotherapist for a local football club where he also acts as playing coach. Outside of work Stuart enjoys watching all forms of sport specifically Australian Rules, basketball and American football. He also enjoys playing football, spending time with family and his groodle Cheddar.

    Lachie Gee

    Lachie grew up in Tasmania before relocating to Melbourne to complete his studies. Lachie completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science before going on to complete a Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne

    Lachie completed his University clinical placements in a diverse range of areas, including private practice, paediatrics, rehabilitation settings, and acute and subacute hospital settings. He has a keen interest on AFL sporting injuries such as hamstring and knee injuries, as well as chronic pain and long term injuries including tendinopathy. Lachie is passionate about providing holistic, athlete-centered rehabilitation, with an emphasis on helping athletes return to their full potential. 

    Outside of the clinic, Lachie loves playing football. He has previously played for the Launceston Football Club and played for Uni Blues in the VAFA while he was in Melbourne. Lachie plays football for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club, and is the Head Coach of their Under 18s team. He also supports as one of the Physiotherapists at the club.

    DREW SYKES

    Drew is a physiotherapist who completed the Masters program at UTAS in 2024, after completing his bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science. 

    Drew has a keen interest in sport, currently playing soccer for Riverside Olympic. He understands the physical and mental demands of sport and takes that into consideration when providing rehab for athletes to ensure they return to their sport with confidence and the ability to perform at their best.  

    Drew also has experience in strength and conditioning, having worked for Cricket Tasmania for 4 years while completing his studies in physiotherapy. Drew continues in this roll to this day.

    Future aspirations for Drew include completing his masters in sports physiotherapy, to continue his growth and knowledge as a physio working with athletes of all ages.

    John Marsden

    John Marsden is a qualified physiotherapist with a Master of Physiotherapy and a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, both completed at the University of Tasmania. He has developed valuable clinical experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy through his involvement in a range of rehabilitation and sports performance settings, working with athletes and individuals experiencing pain during his studies.

    With a background in both sport and exercise performance as an athlete and a clinician, John has worked as a sports trainer with Old Scotch, Launceston, and Perth Football Clubs, and has supported AFL teams including Hawthorn, North Melbourne, and the Sydney Swans. These experiences have enhanced his understanding of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimisation, particularly within the demands of Australian Rules football. He has a strong interest in helping athletes recover from injury and return to their best both physically and mentally.

    John’s passion for physiotherapy was inspired by his own experience of being sidelined with injury. This personal journey drives his commitment to helping others recover, return to sport, and achieve their goals. He is equally dedicated to supporting individuals in managing pain and improving their quality of life, helping them move better, feel better, and live more active, fulfilling lives.
